The Ritzy’s renowned monthly Afro-centric night JUJU, and the online world music magazine Rhythm Passport join forces to present you one of the grooviest events in town. We’re keeping the summer alive!
* AREA BOYS *
Area Boys is a DJ project conceived as the answer to the lack of contemporary international, especially African dance music in the Bristol music scene. Area Boys are Ullrich Bartsch and Obaro Evuarherhe: purveyors of international beats from anywhere between Düsseldorf and Lagos.
Together they discovered their love for African rhythms ranging from Fela Kuti’s afrobeat to Ghanaian high life, east African soukous, to more modern “afrobeats”, Kuduro from Angola, Kwaito house from South Africa, and Azonto from West Africa. In between you will find south American sprinkles such as Colombian cumbia, and Jamaican raggaeton and dancehall. From these ingredients they create mesmerising high energy sets that take the audience to a modern cosmopolitan tribalist dance music experience.
